Welcome to the results of our latest fever dream! A blog!
We have tonnes of records that we are super excited to have because we thought some of you would be super excited to listen to and buy! Well, some of those records are still kicking around, and we weren't sure why. Then we thought, maybe we thought too highly of you and assumed you had taste. 🤦
Here's our attempt at instilling some taste into you, our fine customers! Our new blog, Now Hear This, is going to feature music.
Hopefully some of these bands new to you, some you've probably never heard of. Some may be completely offensive to you, but hopefully, we'll help you find one new record that makes you feel something. 🥰
So, without further ado, Bardo Pond are an American psychedelic rock band formed in 1991. Bardo Pond's music is often classified as space rock, acid rock, post-rock, shoegazing, noise or psychedelic rock. Don’t play these albums when you are in a rush to do anything: the droning guitars, thick distortion, feedback and reverb all come together to take you on a psycheledic trip that takes time to savor.
Stoner rock legends Bardo Pond at their shoegazing best: Record Store Day re-issues of their classic Vol 1 on orange vinyl, and Vol 2 on smoked vinyl.
Fans of Pink Floyd, Spaceman 3, or My Bloody Valentine will find common ground here.
Indie/alternative artist Perfume Genius is an American musician. His music explores topics of a deeply personal nature, including sexuality, his personal struggle with Crohn's disease, domestic abuse, and the dangers faced by gay men in contemporary society. His beautifully melodic sonic explorations of topical issues sweep you along on calming waves of music. This Record Store Day album is presented on 2 metallic silver LPs
If you enjoy Mitski, PJ Harvey, Owen Pallet, Phoebe Bridgers or Xiu Xiu, you should be listening to Perfume Genius.
The Sheepdogs are a Canadian rock band formed in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 2004. The Sheepdogs were the first unsigned band to make the cover of Rolling Stone and have gone on to a career featuring multi-platinum album sales and four Juno Awards.
Frontman Ewan Currie, the band's primary songwriter, has described the band's guitar-driven blues-rock style as "pure, simple, good-time music"; he's said that the band aims to land in the sweet spot in between Led Zeppelin and Crosby, Stills & Nash. Currie has further credited Creedence Clearwater Revival, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, and The Allman Brothers Band as influences on the band's style.
One critic has praised the band's "infectiously catchy, soulful, retro sound with beautiful harmonies and a pinch of southern rock."
The Sheepdogs are on the road frequently between recordings. They have headlined tours across Canada and the United States, UK, Eastern and Western Europe, and Australia, and have performed at a number of large festivals including South by Southwest, Coachella, Glastonbury, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza.
The Sheepdogs throw southern boogie rock at you with a bar room swagger that delivers a good old-fashioned rock and roll kick in the ass.
Apart from the glaringly-obvious homage to the Allman Brothers, Rolling Stones and CCR, you will find a lot to love here if you enjoy the Tragically Hip, the Drive By Truckers, the Arkells, or just about any butt-rocking music.
