Now Hear A Place To Bury Strangers

Now Hear A Place To Bury Strangers

The swamps east of Jersey. The desert outside Vegas. The group founded by Oliver Ackermann. Any one of these is a good choice for A Place To Bury Strangers.

We'll just assume you don't work for some psycho being chauffeured around in a big black Caddy, and focus on the band. Catchy, poppy, really loud shoegaze. A revolving-door's worth of band members have kept this band from the early 2000's constantly refreshed.

They've toured with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Nine Inch Nails; sound kinda like The Brian Jonestown Massacre or TV Priest; were once lauded as the loudest band in New York; and are a ton of fun to listen to.

Now Hear A Classic: Sir Elton John

OK, so, we could probably stop right there.

We can't think of anything much more illuminating than simply listing the titles of all of his hit songs — but there is a word limit on this blog, and they probably wouldn't all fit!

The only off-beat thing we do want to mention — which you may not know unless you are such a fan that you've read biographies, watched documentaries, and done research — is that he is yet another example of someone who actually came from a blues background. Yah, his first band was called Bluesography, which became the backing band for Long John Baldry.

Which is where he got the name 'John' from. Ok, so that was another thing. And one more is the fact that he auditioned for — and failed — the lead singer job at King Crimson and Gentle Giant. Just chew on that for a second, and consider what the pop music landscape might be today if Sir Elton had gone full prog rock.... Woah!
